SVG Import

SVG Import #

Though Blender has its native function to import an SVG file as Grease Pencil, this add-on provides with another import operator extending the native one for more use scenarios. The operator has the following differences from the native one:

  • SVG will be directly appended to the active Grease Pencil object, instead of creating a new one.
  • The operator can be used in Draw and Edit mode, while the native one requires switching to Object mode.

The add-on's SVG importer also has more features, as described in the next sections.

Append Multiple Files #

The user can append multiple SVG files to the active Grease Pencil object in a single operation. By default, each SVG file is placed in a separate layer.

If the Image Sequence option is enabled, the SVG files are treated as animation frames. Instead, they are placed in the same layer, each creating a new frame in the timeline.

The Reuse Materials option determines whether new materials are created for each imported SVG file, or whether the same materials are applied to all imported SVG files.

Clipboard Utility #

Some graphic design software allow users to copy vector shapes as SVG code text, including a small amount of painting software such as Clip Studio Paint. This add-on provides with a separate button in the same panel to parse the SVG code from the system clipboard and append the image to the active Grease Pencil object.
